Amazon announced an AI-powered Recaps feature for Kindle that helps bring readers up to date when diving back into an e-book series.
“For fans of book series, recalling plots and characters after a long reading break or a wait between new releases can be a challenge,” Amazon notes in the announcement post. “Kindle’s new Recaps feature makes it easier than ever for readers to dive into the next book in their favorite series by providing a quick refresher on storylines and character arcs. Kindle device readers in the U.S. can now enjoy short recaps for books they’ve either purchased or borrowed for thousands of best-selling English-language e-books in series.”

Amazon compares Recaps to the “previously on…” segment that’s common with TV shows. It’s helpful if you’ve taken a long break from reading a series or had to wait for a new book in a series.
Recaps is available now on Kindle e-readers with the latest Kindle software update, but it’s coming to the Kindle app on iPhone and iPad soon as well. When available, you’ll see a note about recaps at the top of a book series view, and if you choose to view a recap, it will warn you that it will contain spoilers.
